Because English is a Germanic language? Read Wikipedia

Hi Natalie,

you can "blame" the Anglo-Saxons.^^

I have to admit I once read the german version completely not the english version. But skiming over the texts I would say they are similar.

Because they are related languages. They used to be one language a very very very long time ago and split as they were spoken in different parts of the world. Over time English got simpler and the language borrowed lots of French words. Despite this, they are still fairly similar.

This "very very long time ago" can be argued :) Languages are changing pretty fast, after all 1000 years is roughly only 40 generations.
