Understanding Dutch Spoken
I am now beginning level 14 and suddenly Dutch videos make sense , more than just the odd word and simple sentences, I can actually follow the gist of a conversation. It's like a new world opening up to me, thank you Duolingo, thank you.
Clearly the Duo voice is not as good as a human speaker and there are some quirks here and there, but I think the Dutch TTS (text-to-speech) is really good and sounds very natural. It's the best Dutch TTC I've heard so far. This means it will make Duo learners get used to something close to actual human speakers.
Congrats, this is where the fun starts, a new world to explore and things to find that interest you!
Cool. I don't experience this feeling yet but you gave me some hope. Dutch always seems super fast for me.
It is indeed difficult, but if you keep on practising and listening, you will improve.

Also don't be afraid to listen to simple Dutch, like videos for children: https://www.youtube.com/user/NIJNTJE/featured
And keep things versatile, listen to things that interest you.
A tip I can give is Komt een man bij de dokter which are jokes acted out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huFE4q68Iuw
Dank je wel. I watch fairy tales for some time but when I switch to something harder it sounds like a different language for me. But this problem is probably just individual and not related to Dutch. Even in my native language there is a huge difference between my writing and communicational skills. Similar is in English. I can read English books easily but I communicate almost like a beginner.
We often tend to develop our strenghts too much trying to forget on our weaknesses. But we need to improve our weaknesses to be more complex. I know I should communicate more and I am trying to do it.
