"Я маю червоне горло." ("I have a red/sore throat.") is how we said it at home.

"В мене горло болить." is also used. ("I have a sore throat."/"My throat hurts.")

It should be 'sore throat' instead

"Sore throat" would be "хворе горло". In Ukrainian "червоне горло" is not an expression for "sore throat" same as "red throat" is not one in English. In this case it just literally means that the throat is red. Like, a person looked in the mirror at own throat and saw that it's red.
