Hi I am new to duolingo and have decided to learn French. Is there anything I should know about duolingo or French itself? Thanks so much

Hi Kit-Kat,

Welcome to Duolingo.

Here are some useful links, to get more familiar with Duolingo:

Happy learning.

Thanks a lot Pentaan

1) It's very helpful to read the lessons as you do them. You'll find them if you scroll down; this will make you learn and understand what you're doing 2) You're fluency won't go any higher than 60%, i believe. Don't worry, this is a duolingo bug. Also sometimes it'll go down a percent-don't worry about that. It happens to everyone and it's not very reliable 3) If you focus on your streak, you will progress more. It motivates people, and some people have a streak of a couple years (impressive, right?) 4) A note about French: Watching French movies on netflix (they're either actually in French or you can change the language setting of the show) will help a LOT because you're hearing the grammer and how fluent people use it. (also this is a fun way to learn but be warned! If you do this you'll be thinking with a french accent for a while lol...but it helps!!)

Hope this helps you out!! :D

lolp3633 this is very helpful, thanks!

Duolingo is very fun!! I am also sort of new (I had a previous account) and I love learning different languages! French itself is very fun to learn. I am waiting for the Hindi lessons to come out, but until then I'm sticking to French. I feel like sticking to 1 language is easiest (besides the ones you're fluent in) but once you're pretty good at French you could move onto something else.

To be honest, there is so much to tell you it is not funny, but just don't follow anyone that has a rude profile, you can block them pressing the geared circle, in the top right corner. And Also, Duo is changing, and so there happens to be lots of bugs, I don't really like streak freeze (it stops you for one day, so you don't have to do French.) But I often use them anyways. There is a lot of bugs going around Duo, so just post any questions. May the odds be EVER in your favor. :D

Would you like to join my French club? It is full of people (including learners!) that would be able to help you out. And there is rewards for joining, and contest too. here is the link. You don't have to, but it is wise.

The secret is to practice every. single. day.
