"Kdo tam jel?"

What is the difference between "Kdo tam jel?" and "Kdo tam šel?" ? I'm guessing it's the presumed mode of transportation implied in the question, but I'd like to understand the nuance.


jel must be by some type of transportation vehicle - car, carriage, bus, ship...

šel can be walking, can even stress that it was walking, but sometimes can be just general saying that the person did go there (in whatever manner, he just attended the meeting)


So this is very similar to German "fahren" vs "gehen"?
