FWIW... Typically, in English, when someone is being addressed, a comma is used before or after the name of the person being addressed. So, if we wanted to instruct a group of boys to hold back their tears, the sentence would be written as "Boys, don't cry." Perhaps someone else on the team will answer your question more directly.
