I can't deactivate my account

Ola! I cannot deactivate my account, and if anyone could tell me how to and why this isn't working, that would be great. Thank you!

An account can never be deleted. When you deactivate, you can still log back in and see your progress.

I see. What does deactivating do, then?

It does what it sounds like - your account stops being active. Your username shows up as "[deactivated user]" in the forums, you don't get any reminder emails or notifications, etc.

You can re-activate your account by logging in - I'm guessing you're logging in to see whether your account is active, and activating it in the process.

Just deactivate and don't log back in. That'll fix it.

Duolingo's a great source. Keep going with it and it'll be great.

That didn't work for some reason. Do you know why?

I don't know. What error message did it give you?

It didn't give me an error message, the screen just went blank so I made a new tab and I was still activated.

Since you're asking for help using the site, could you move this post to the Troubleshooting forum? Your post is likely to get a lot more attention there, because that's where the people who are willing to help with this sort of problem hang out. It will also help keep this forum easy to navigate for those who aren't part of the troubleshooting group.

Don't delete it and create a new one, just click edit, and change the topic from Duolingo to Troubleshooting. Here's a guide on how to move a post: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/16609773.

...and here's a guide on how to choose which forum to post in: [Guide] In which forum should I post my discussion?.

Thanks :)
