OVER ONE MILLION LEARNING GREEK
We are beyond excited to announce that the course has now over 1 million learners! Which is really amazing.
This course has been through many challenging stages. Many things have been improved, more things will be improved, and many more things are to be added.
Being a contributor or a moderator is not easy. Editing and building a tree, going through users’ reports, feedback and applications for contribution, keeping up with changes and updates, troubleshooting in the forums as well as research and reference, are also part of the job. A job which, we are not getting paid for.
This means it’s a job we do because we want to, not because we have to. Which also means that, without your constant feedback and support, it would be way less motivating for us to keep doing it.
So, come and celebrate with us as we reach this milestone.
And together as a global community, achieve personal dreams, as well as be part the grand dream of continuing to achieve excellence creating language learning available for free.
- from The Greek Team.
Woohoo! Thank you for building the course, and I am very happy to be one of those million learners!
Dear Maughanster_ ,
Thank you for celebrating with us.
And thank you for being one of those million learners.
It is our pleasure to be continually supporting and developing this course.
We have so many new treats also in the pipeline, and getting so tantalizing close to completion.
You're very welcome! I hope the course continues to prosper, for the amount of Greek learners is growing quicker than any other course, I must say.
I am amazed at how well organized the course is. I am enjoying it very much, and, again, I cordially thank you and the rest of the team for the course.
I must give out thank yous to the entire team for building the course, because it is truly amazing!
Awww. That's such a nice thing to say :') Thank you for your kind words. ^.^ We're glad to hear that you like it so far :) (Feedback is always welcome. ^.^)
Thank you for your positive input you give us the courage to try even harder.
So, come and celibate with us
Some people might feel more inclined to celebrate.
Duolingo is a religion now. Better plan your pilgramige to the temple in Pittsburgh!
You're welcome, dear. ❤
Wee nead tew celibrate thees auesomly acheevment!! Cowngratz tew teh greak teem fuor thees meilston!! Yew geyz rok!! goofy look
Thank you :D and also thank you community, for participating in language learning in this community.
It is all of us, and also - how we choose to interact in this environment, which is one of the outstanding things that allows Duolingo to be amazing.
That people ask appropriate language questions, and others so patiently answer them. That we show kindness to each other, and strive to always make this a welcoming environment where we can keep our focus on language learning. In that - it is what I have heard some classify as the "politics" of our community - that is why we are successful. I though consider it is the way we choose to behave and be respectful of each other.
Which while it falls under the official definition of what politics is - it is an aspect of politics which is different to other aspects of politics. And it is how we choose to interact that is part of our success.
All of you - you make Duolingo inspirational and outstanding.
And also because Duolingo has taken the risk and is managing to create the backbone that allows this community to thrive. We also need to thank all the people who have developed and contribute to duolingo, including those especially of staff. As well as those that have financed and backed this project.
Thank you Duolingo.
Thank you for the course!!! It's nice to be part of one millions learners :) Greek letters, reading and writing is little hard for me, probably I need more practicing. Course is good with useful word for daily conversation. I only do not like lesson 'Parts of Speech' (~no. 9) :P Thank You again!
(P.S. Parts of Speech is now gone from the new tree. We will add the word list in a tips and notes section or a discussion, because a lot of people seem interesting in the actual vocabulary ^.^)
Καλημέρα :) Cool! POS is really hard lesson with words/phrases that we can't easy use in conversation. I think Duolingo has another and simplest way for learning, principle is not like I learned languages in school where POS is very important.
Yes, just as the learners on Duo learn through trial and error so do we and it is with the input from the community that we improve. Thank you for that.
SOUVLAKI FOR THE WHOLE GREEK TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and pizza too but that's not a Greek food, as Clarimari14 pointed out.)
Pizza??? WE NEED MOUSSAKA AND SOUVLAKI!!! (And some Tzatziki now that we are it. Uhmmmm delicious tzatziki...)
(we can have pizza too but we need Greek food to celebrate!)
To that, I have to agree! (And tbh in celebrations like this the more food the merrier! After all, we are more than a million now ;D)
Ευχαριστώ for this excellent course!!! You guys are helping me, little by little, to fulfill my childhood dream of learning this awesome language, so thanks again for it.
In honor of this occasion I will start the Greek course! (and probably stop it and just leave it there until I finish my Spanish tree like all the languages I do. Greek course contributors, that's not because the course is boring, it's because I need to finish the Spanish tree)
Hahahah, that's okay. :D Thank you for considering starting the Greek course ^.^
Thank you for making the course! I've completed some of the skills, and I have to say this: IT IS AN AWESOME COURSE!
Well I think you'll be even more pleased with the upcoming tree which is richer, more practical and without some of those tricky issues learners have pointed out. Best wishes on the Spanish we look forward to your return.
I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU. I have learned more Greek with this course than what I could possibly have expected. I want to say that the moderators and contributors have worked (are working) really hard. The course is really well pitched for "ab initio" learners. It is also a delight to read civilised and cogent comments and answers, whereas one's mileage in other Duolingo courses may vary (i.e., "spammish" comments galore, for instance in the Irish and Italian courses).
YEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHH! CAKE AND ICE CREAM YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET THIS IS AWESOME! DUDES I KNOW I'M NOT LEARNING GREEK BUT I'M SO HAPPY FOR Y'ALL! THIS IS LIT! YEEEEEET!
Thank you for this great compliment.
I do assure you, the team is doing a great deal of work, especially at the moment. Putting in countless hours of work each week, including internal team discussions. And some of them are complex and difficult discussions, with many shades of gray as to the best possible course of action for both our diverse user base. From children to adults, to those learning casually, those learning to pass academic exams, those learning for travel or pleasure etc. The balance between teaching grammar, to teaching topics. How to work within the structure of how Duolingo works, with its benefits and also its restrictions. While also focusing on having fun in there, that also may be fun for different communities, and even considering story arcs and different learning styles and abilities.
There is no one right way to meet all these different variations.
Then there are also the challenges of team dynamics layered in there as well as having a team scattered across time zones. Which has some advantages and disadvantages as well.
We are working on some restructuring, as well as at least hundreds of new sentences. (though we are not keeping an accurate tally of the sentence count.) A lot if it is also on the updated course. However I can not give you an estimate of when the new course may be available for release. There is so much under construction at the moment. Thank you also for your patience, as we work on these improvements.
I will ensure all our team also hear of your very kind words.
No offense, but why is this stickied? Because we don't have enough (useless) sticky posts, right? (Not that this post is useless, but it doesn't need to be stickied. Sorry.)
It's stickied in celebration. There aren't any requirements for stickies. Let's just be happy and celebrate the 1 million milestone :)
