A Question Regarding "Automatic" Following of Discussions...

So, recently the forums have been worked on and some issues have arose from it. A major thing that is claimed from users is that they cannot follow discussions automatically.

This confuses me because that has never been the case for me. I have always had to manually follow discussions because it never would follow automatically if I commented on a post. Even if it was my own discussion, it would never follow it on its own.

At first, I thought this was due to some Duolingo testing, however, it was explained to me by a moderator that this was most likely not the case. Now that this maintenance has ended, people are bringing this feature up and I am just wondering if me not being able to automatically follow discussions before the maintenance is a problem.

Personally, I don't have an issue with manually following discussions, since that is what I am so used to. So, the changes don't affect me. Though, I am still wondering why I (or possibly others) was excluded from this feature of automatically following discussions since first starting Duolingo. Apparently, this is a default thing that everyone should have the ability to do.

I'm also not auto-following discussions, never have been and I'm glad I'm not. I'm wondering if the e-mail notification setting could have something to do with this (originally, the current problem is probably a bug). It seems like the only thing in the settings that is in anyway related to the issue.

Maybe an A/B test or a bug.

Mine used to follow every discussion I commented on or made by default. So, I kinda got used to it. I guess it isn't a big change, by itself.

But, I'm also not getting my Bell Notifications anymore. I hope these are glitches. It isn't as easy to keep up with the discussions.

I auto-followed discussions for a while... now I can control it manually and I'm actually happy!

I think there should be an option whether it should be automatic or manual.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if it was an Alpha/Beta test or bug as Lemniscatarum said. I've also been having that Issue since I started on my other account before I forgot my password.

This isn't the only thing that has changed since Oct 3rd. here is a discussion of other things that aren't working properly https://www.duolingo.com/comment/24712308.

I know the changes and this was not a "change" for me.

Ok, I don't really care about not being able to follow a discussion by commenting, but I really care about not being able to get notifications :(

I don't care, either. I mean, I've never had that ability to begin with. But, it is odd that we are not getting notifications. It seems this maintenance only added problems, even though I'm sure they have fixed a lot as a result.

Hopefully these issues will be resolved!

I have noticed some things though, like, when you are in the discussion center and you click on a language topic, than it has another whole list called Sentences. Also, now your comments can go further over.

How did you do that?

EDIT: The sentence tab is not new.

Ok, I'v never saw it before, so I assumed it was. Thanks :)

Yes, it has never been in the general Duolingo forum and the forum with all your subscriptions, but there is one for each separate forum.

I don't know exactly, but I didn't see it before, so i assumed it was:)

I don't know how good of a change that is. Mobile seems to handle the deeper threads a bit better but on web it's way too easy to spam at "Here is six" and deeper levels.

I agree, although, I myself don't like going to Here is 6, because I don't like reading those straight lines.
