Finished my third tree!
This time it's the German -> English tree!
Can't believe I finally did it!!!! Awesome seeing my third shiny trophy.
Wow nice job! I'm new to the site, so I have a question for you. After completing a tree, how comfortable with the language do you feel? Say if you started with no knowledge of the language, and completed a tree, do you feel you could visit a country of the language and speak with natives with no problems?
I see. So after finishing a tree and spending maybe 6 months reading books, watching movies/videos and listening to music, one could expect to be maybe in the B2 speaking/listening range would you say?
It really depends on the language. At an hour a day doing Duolingo, flashcards, native media, maybe a tutor once a week, you'll get far in six months. For an easy language like French or Spanish I think a solid B1/low B2 could be achievable. If you expose yourself for more than an hour a day in an easier language B2 is definitely a goal that could be accomplished in under a year. Although harder languages such as (assuming you're a native English speaker) the slavic languages and non Indo-European languages would take a bit more time and effort.
Edit: I don't mean B2 speaking, that's wholly dependent on how much you get to speak with native speakers.
