For all of you newcomers, welcome to the challenge! I hope you will find this motivating for your studies over the next 7 days. :)

For y'all who have already participated, you know the drill: Starting today (or if it's too late today, you can start tomorrow), put in your best effort to earn 100XP a day (or however many you would like to set as your goal), each day, for a week.

The suggested rule: Please do not use placement tests or test-outs to accumulate XP for this challenge.

To join, just leave a comment today with your week's chart and update it daily as shown below, with whatever day you've started as the day listed first:. For me, that's going to be Sunday.

Important: Don't forget to check "Follow discussion" button up top. Auto-follow is not working consistently. If it says "Following discussion" you're set to go! If not, click it. :)

My personal goal will be 30XP a day in Japanese plus my goal in the ASL challenge. (Hopefully during next month's challenge, my goal will be reaching lvl 13. :D)

Week 1

Sunday 日曜日: 30XP ✔️
Monday 月曜日: 30XP ✔️
Tuesday 火曜日: 30XP (+125) ✔️
Wednesday 水曜日: 0XP (meep!)
Thursday 木曜日: 30XP ✔️
Friday 金曜日: 30XP (+4) ✔️
Saturday 土曜日: 30XP (+8) ✔️ (SUCCESS!!) :D

Remember, the good stuff is worth striving for.

PS We were down voting nested comments as an experiment. But, that didn't achieve the desired results. To help find your Daily XP Charts for updating, use the search funciton. On Windows desktop, click CTRL and F on your keyboard. On iOS, click COMMAND F. ^_^

It's always great to see this challenge pop up, and how it helps people put more effort into studying than they generally do and challenge themselves.

This week, I could definitely use a motivator for harder studying, so this would be an absolutely perfect challenge. My goal is actually to earn at least 100XP each day for the next week between Dutch and some Swedish (which needs a little bit of review ;D). I'm not going to test out of anything, but I'll probably use timed practice for some days. I'm also hoping to maybe reach Level 16 in Swedish (finally).

Lördag/Saturday: 100!
Söndag/Sunday: 100!
Monday/Måndag: 100! (Lvl 16 reached!!!)

Tuesday/Tinsdag: 100!
Wednesday/Onsday: 50! ;(
Thursday/Torsdag: 100!
Friday/Fredag: 100!

Again, thank you for the challenge! (Oh, and also: I actually really like the pictures of the bunnies, especially the adorable one that's holding a cookie! XD)

Hi Suri, and welcome to Duolingo!

It's in Swedish. I've been struggling to find a good pace to go at for reviewing the weak material in the Swedish from English course, so this challenge was ideal for me. :D

A new bunny challenge? I would like to join. Although I am not a bunny ;)

Current trees: Tr from En and Ge from Tr, both should be entirely golden again by the end of this week. It is already Sunday here:

Sunday - Pazar : 100XP
Monday - Pazartesi : 70+30
- seems as if there is a bug in the app. 7 repetition cycles where ok with 20 questions each. The following where erratic and only had 2-3 questions. I will not count these for the competition. The app acts strange since the update, there are less options to report errors and sentence discussions are shown with 0 instead of having comments...
If I get any correct repetition cycles with 20 questions I'll add them later to the daily count. Edit: Done :)
Tuesday - Salı 100xp :-)
Wednesday - Çarşamba 100 xp :-)
Tuesday - Perşembe 100 xp :)
Friday - Cuma 100 xp :)
Saturday - Cumartesi 110 xp :-)

I am already looking forward to it :)

Yes, it is very interesting, very logical grammar, only a few exceptions, phonetic... German is my native language and my English isn't bad either, but these languages have some difficulties, not being phonetic, having many exceptions, ...;-) Turkish is difficult in a different sense, because it is not the same language family. For example when you already know some French and start learning Spanish the similarities between both languages give you a head start. With a language from a different language family you cannot build up on similarities and quicker identification of differences. It sort of feels like building an entire house from scratch instead of just renovating it prior to moving in :)

Steffi, I forgot your native language is German! You're taking the TR course from EN though, yeah? How's that going? You're fluent in English, so I imagine it isn't doing much for your English skills? Or, is it helping there too?

Oh yes, it does help to keep it fresh :-) and it reminds me from time to time that there are verbs that do not take the-ing form and how to use the correct tenses in if clauses... and so on ... even if fluent after three decades of learning I can still improve the little bugs that slip in and pass unnoticed ;)
I've once had the pleasure to revive my French skills after not having used them for more than thirteen years and I think it is easier to practice before it is all forgotten :)

Seffi, thanks for the reminder that I still had today's goal to meet! I've just finished it :D Yesterday's efforts with Timed Practice for the Home skill paid off. I must have done that lesson 10 times just to get 30XP in it then. This time, I got a perfect score! So, I moved on to a different skill. (I'm using Timed Practice to improve my speed with Japanese. It's, well very challenging for a number of reasons. So, I've had to go back to easier skills. Who knew my reading comprehension was so slow! Not for long though, now that I know :D)

I've been using timed practice (in Hebrew) for similar reasons. I also find it is good in that I do tend to genuinely get XP commensurate with effort when regilding. If I do a non-timed practice of a skill I don't know well, I can be there forever and get 10 XP. If I do poorly on timed practice, I may only get 1 or 2 XP, but it's taken me a much shorter time to fail miserably ;) and if it turns out I do know the skill well, I can get 15 or 20.

I don't know if it actually takes any less time than doing two regular practices, but it feels less frustrating.

Timed practice was only available on the app for a short period of time and I was among the first to complain about it, because I did not have a choice. (Ok, one could (re-)do lessons non-timed instead of strengthening but that is not the choice I wanted) I think there might be people who would like to have it in the app, but it shouldn't be imposed on a user, I have my reasons - as described above - why I do not want to use timed practice in the app.

Good, I might try timed practice in future, but as I do most practices with the app I still prefer the normal mode. Not because my reading comprehension would be slow - all languages I learn use a latin alphabet, but I just do not bother about speed. There is enough time. I can type reasonably fast (appr. 400 keystrokes per minute) when I use a keyboard, but not on this device with two thumbs only. And I need to take my time to save time, because if I make any errors the app will take a break of up to several minutes to verify my reply and to suggest a correct response when I am in an area with bad connection :)
Someone suggested a barrier free site in the TR Forum with various series in Turkish with Turkish subtitles - and sign language - I tried the first one and with pausing sometimes to catch up on unknown vocabulary this should be quite useful to increase both, faster reading and listening comprehension :-) I cannot help myself, I do not only look forward to a goal because that is something vague in the future, but I tremendously enjoy being on my way to it.

Steffi, Sign language? Was it Turkish Sign Language by chance? I'd love to have a link (even if it isn't TSL. But, if it is, I'd be ecstatic!)

I don't think I've ever attempted Timed Practice on the app. The prospect was too daunting. :P

On a perfect day, I should be able to get 480 XP (30 XP per language) and meet my quota. But, summer is over and the oppression of schoolwork that comes with summer's departure has significantly affected my learning. I'll try this week, but there's only so far I can go, especially with loads of homework to do.

Edit: Just realized my goal should be 540. Whoops.

Sunday (Тхьэмахуэ): 240/540 I got half of my goal today. So upset, honestly. I ended up having to go with my siblings to Chuck E Cheese (which just doesn't feel the same anymore) and I had to watch my baby brother afterward, who is insane. Worst of all, I won't be able to catch up tomorrow (or probably for the rest of the week) since I have loads of homework to do tomorrow. Sigh.

Monday (Блыщхьэ): 400/540 - I caught up with my goal from yesterday. Why are 20 XP missing? Because I recently JUST started the French tree. I do one lesson in each language each day as well as two strengthening exercises, which I can't do yet in French. Now I gotta do another 540 (sort of), after I finish my homework.
Update from later today: I got through four languages, but this means I have more to catch up tomorrow than I did today. Sigh, school is my biggest oppressor...

Tuesday (Гъубж): 400/540 I caught up with Monday, but now I have two days worth of practice to complete in one day. And not only that, but I have a big test tomorrow. Sigh...

Wednesday (Бэрэжьей): 90/540 Why do I even try anymore... I think I should seriously consider homeschooling. It would ease my parents' as well as my stress by significant levels. Plus, I would be able to meet my quota everyday, and learn faster and better.

Thursday (Махуэку): 120/540 Should I even explain myself anymore?

Friday (Мэрем): 320/540 I finally caught up to the previous day. Now I have like 4 days worth to catch up to...
Update: I only managed to get one lesson through in Russian. Sigh....,.
Saturday (Щэбэт): NaN/540

I feel my goal is easily achievable, ESPECIALLY given my former plan, where I would usually earn ~1000 XP per day. This goal is a significant drop from that previous goal, yet I still cannot reach it sometimes, which is kind of distressing for me.

There is no more certain way to get me involved in a challenge than to include a random cute animal picture.

I'm going to aim to do a combined 60 points a day in Polish and Czech, since I'm focusing on Slavic languages right now. Included in that, I'd like to level up in Czech, which means that I'd need about 250XP over the week.

Sunday/ Niedziela: 60

Monday/ Poniedziałek:

Tuesday/ Wtorek:

Wednesday/ Środa:

Thursday/ Czwartek:

Friday/ Piątek:

Saturday/ Sobota:

I'm planning on doing more practicing than that total, but I feel pretty confident that I can commit to this much on my "focus" languages. I'll do it for the bunnies.

I wasn't going to join, because I sort of just do duolingo everyday for as long as I feel like, which is normally 10-30, but seeing all these motivational comments, I've decided to join.

I'll be aiming for 30 exp a day in my Spanish course. The challenge for me will simply be in remaining consistent.

I finished. Fun fun fun. It was actually hard. A few times I just sorta wanted to only do 10 xp and quit, and a few times I had to finish the goal before midnight.

But I did it, and I'm proud.

Next time I might try a bigger goal.

Mjau, yay! I am still stuck in the Hungarian tree so this will be a good motivator. I took a week or so break from it, and hopefully I will be able to return with a bit of renewed bounce. To set an achievable goal that won't be a burden, I think I will be a copy-cat and do 30xp in Hungarian a day. I'm also recapturing my Dutch owl, doing about 100xp per day so I will keep up with that too. Somehow, the 100xp in Dutch takes less time than 30xp in Hungarian.

Sunday: 100 xp dutch, 30 xp Hungarian
Monday: 100xp dutch, 30xp Hungarian (I didn't think I could make it, but I did!)
Tuesday: 100xp dutch, 0xp Hungarian
Wednesday: 100xp dutch, 10xp Hungarian (the directional conjunction lessons, of which there are many, are probably the most frustrating Duo experience I have had apart from the Spanish for Chinese tree, which last I checked doesn't accept even the most obvious alternatives)
Thursday: 100xp dutch, 60xp Hungarian (I finally got through the seemingly-endless directional conjunction lessons and progress is faster now that I don't have to struggle with the convoluted and grammatically problematic English translations of those lessons; those lessons very nearly sapped my will to continue, but now I can glimpse at last the Hungarian Owl at the end of the tunnel)
Friday: 100xp dutch, 50xp Hungarian (nice to exceed my goal in Hungarian again)
Saturday: 100xp dutch, 40xp Hungarian (I was so sleepy I didn't think I would complete more than 10xp this evening but after a nap I managed it all plus a little extra)

Hey folks, if you don't mind, want to help me get all discussion under people's Daily XP charts down to -3? It will just make them "hidden". You can still click in to expand and read them though. That way, we can all reach our daily charts to update them much faster. (I don't recommend doing this in other discussions, unless you are down voting spam. In this discussion, it is just to make updating less cumbersome.) ^_^

I usually use the Browser search function to get to my post quickly: I press "Ctrl+F" at the same time. The search field appears, I type in my name (or a rare word that hopefully is only in my post) and get to my post. Sometimes I have to hit "enter" more than once, but overall it's a quick method.

Edit: Note to self, read the top post properly LOL

Great timing as ever, your royal Bunniness. I am gonna aim for 100XP in a mixture of Hebrew, Russian and Czech, because apparently I'm a masochist ¯_(ツ)_/¯ LOL I did finish out the last week the last time I did the September challenge, but kept forgetting to come back and note it down 8-o

I know from experience that a mix of Latin and Hebrew confuses the forum massively, so I'm gonna do the days as I go along.

Hey hey! Welcome back Arachnje! Your little bunny sea slug is just the cutest. Whenever I see it pop up in one of my challenges, I can't help but grin. :D

Reverse courses can be a huge challenge. You say you are a beginner with Chinese? I tried English for Japanese speakers and it was tough! (Also fun.) I don't think I got very far, but I'm glad I tried it. I bet you are excited to see Chinese for English speakers has entered Alpha stage in the Incubator!

Thank you so much ^_^, but actually, that’s not a sea slug, it’s a snowbunny, and I suppose I should explain this properly since it’s connected to Japanese culture:

A snowbunny is a traditional Japanese variation of the snowman . It’s made from a hand-size lump of snow, the ears are little leaves from the Yuzuriha shrub, and the eyes are red Nandina berries.

Here is how a snow bunny looks in person

I bet you are excited to see Chinese for English speakers has entered Alpha stage in the Incubator!

I’m was very excited to see Chinese in the incubator, and just like with Korean, I applied for alpha testing (fingers crossed). That’s one of the reasons I’m trying to clear the reverse tree as soon as possible.

I noticed that you're doing the reverse course for Chinese. I don't know if you're a Chinese native, but just in case you aren't, here's a fun fact:

礼拜一 can be used instead of 星期一。

It depends on where in China you are. For example, for me, in Guangdong, my entire family, all my friends, and even complete strangers use 礼拜一 a small bit more than 星期一.

Starting Sonntag I am going to get 100 xp a day!

Sonntag - I am feeling very German and can almost say the words I practised feel almost fluent. I feel like I can just put them in a sentence and be correct, I doubt I am correct though. Ja, das ist meinen Schrank. Es ist gross, aber es sauber night ist. Got 157 today.

Montag - Didn't start til late, lots of complex grammar rules. Got it done. 107

Dienstag - Decided to spread language ideas. Deutsch is my main focus, I'll do at least 70 XP of that a day but 30 XP for French and 30 XP for Korean sounds good too. Once the chinese comes out I will do 40 XP making 170 XP a daily goal, I'm excited. I got 117 XP today, 89 German rest French. (This diary is for me by the way)

Mittwoch - Had 4 hours of drivers ed, did this at 9:30, 107, woo.

      Donnerstag - Did it again

      Well, I can't miss a bunny challenge!

100 XP in Norwegian alone is a bit too much, so I'll pick up French from English in addition and aim for at least 30 XP in Norwegian and 100 total.

Søndag: 60 XP Norwegian, 100 total
Mandag: 30 XP Norwegian, 100 total
Tirsdag: 50 XP Norwegian, 100 total
Onsdag: 30 XP Norwegian (couldn't practice more because Duo changed the stylesheet and my userstyle stopped working)
Torsdag: 10 XP Norwegian (to keep my streak)
Fredag: 10 XP Norwegian (to keep my streak)
Lørdag: 20 XP Norwegian. The userstyle has been updated, but I lost my motivation completely. Duolingo is no longer a reliable tool for language learning to me. It should take less than half an hour for a capable designer to fix the colors, but staff decided to not care.

Oh man, I almost missed this! Looks like I'll have to start on a Monday instead.

So, since uni has started up and my workload is considerably greater, I think I'll set my goal at a nice 30xp in Japanese too. Unfortunately that means I'm probably not gonna finish the tree during this challenge, but it should get me going again from the current stop I'm at.

      月曜日: 30xp
      火曜日: 30xp
水曜日: 20xp (thought I had done 30... I was wrong)
      木曜日: 30xp
      金曜日: 30xp
      土曜日: 30xp
      日曜日: 30xp

Glad I was able to mostly stick to my goal. It turned out to be the perfect amount of xp per day for me. I think I'll have to set my goal of finishing the Japanese tree to "by the end of the year" because school takes up so much of my time, especially when I'm an astrophysics major.

AH! I'm just seeing this on Monday afternoon! I'm in for the rest of the week! I really shouldn't be doing this because I'm taking the GRE (Graduate Record Exam) next Tuesday, so I need to study but I need breaks! Hmm... I do want to complete the Norwegian tree one of these days so I'll do a random number of xp each day.

      Mantag: 50 xp

Tirsdag: 50 xp Finished "Travel" skill!

Wednesday: 100xp Due to the release of JA (and KO) on the web, I just decided to play with the Japanese tree. Will get back to NO tomorrow. Finished Hiragana 4 and leveled up today!

      Torsdag: 40xp Finished "Shapes" skill!

Fredag: 30xp Finished "Countries" skill! Meh...I'm done for today.

      Lørdag: 50xp

Yay! A message from my favourite bunny! Thanks!

I'm doing English from Spanish. I'm planning to start English from Japanese when I'm done with the Korean tree. And I would really love a Swedish reverse tree...

I'm assuming your English is also from Spanish?

Yes, English from Spanish. I have a couple of levels in English from Japanese, but, because it is the smaller of the two it doesn't show up.

Last I knew, there were no plans for a Swedish reverse tree, because most Swedish native speakers are raised speaking English as well. Reverse trees sure are handy though. For that reason, I wish every course had one.

Oh right, I forgot that only the highest course per target language is visible. So far I don't have any target language twice.

I know that a Swedish reverse course is quite unlikely but I'm still hoping for the option to translate more into the target language. That would be really awesome. Until then I'm taking a real life Swedish course. That's even better^^

That is so cool! I bet you'll have a leg up on the other students. Your class will help to round out your Duolingo studies nicely too. I wish Duolingo had existed when I was taking Spanish and Japanese in offline classes.

Maybe create a discussion post after and let us know about your experience...?

The class (A2) starts next week. From previous experience with a Spanish course I might have an advantage in vocabulary but lag behind in actually speaking the language. I'll consider making a discussion post about it. Thanks for the idea^^

Yup, my avatar is a bunny. You won't find it in the Spanish course, but if you check out Turkish, Vietnamese, Swedish, and some of the other courses outside of the in-house courses made by staff, you'll find bunny sentences my friends put in for me. Some are even specifically about blue bunnies. ^_^

PS Good luck on reaching a 20 day streak! If you go to the Lingot Store, you can buy a Streak Freeze for 15 or so lingots. (The Lingot store in in the Home tab. See the blue bar at the top of the page on Desktop version of the website.) Equip it now and it will automatically freeze your streak the next time you miss a day. It only works once though before you have to equip a new one.

Speir_ I was really excited when I first became aware of the page views on the Wiki around 2 or so years ago. We were getting 6,000 page views a day! I imagine it is much higher these days, with so many new people joining the forums. :D

I imagine that it has gotten more popular over the past few years. It already contains over eight hundred helpful, detailed articles that would be found absolutely useful to newer members on Duolingo. :D

Speir_ It looks like last week was actually a slow week for the wiki. But, our regularly most popular pages were still going strong.

Yes, I'm pretty new to Duolingo (around one month) but it is a very good website. I like this contest because it's challenging and friendly, especially with all those rabbits. I hope I win a rabbit if I reach my goal every day. :)

Oh my goodness, I wish!! Everytime I visit a pet shelter, I visit the cats, rats, and bunnies. I seriously considered adopting an old black and white bunny and a dwarf grey bunny. But, I couldn't afford the monthly addition to my expenses, and I think my two kitties would have been very jealous. So, with great struggle, I walked away.

Also, only here a month and already level 9? That's great! :D

A friend of mine once had a rabbit they adopted. It was totally white and was just a ball of white fur.

Thanks. I'm at the third checkpoint, and I wasn't sure if I should've progressed further.

Go at a pace that helps you learn, but that doesn't make you totally bored. You can always go back to review whenever you need to. And, after finishing the Spanish course, you can do the reverse course if it's available. (For instance, if you are taking Spanish for English speakers, you can take English for Spanish speakers next.)

A lot of discussion is happening in this thread. So, I hope you don't mind I'm going to give it a down vote. Not because I dislike it, but so that it doesn't create a big space people have to scroll past in order to update their daily chart. :)

Good idea. I didn't realize so many people have joined so far. Hopefully, people can see how others are progressing so far throughout the week. :)

Oh wow! They launched Japanese beta on the website today and I blasted past my 30XP goal and did 155XP. Anyone else use the website for Japanese XP today?

Also, just an update. Next month, we won't be down voting nested comments. It was an experiment since this month has had a lot more interactive participation than usual. I wasn't fond of how that's working out. So next month, I'll put instructions in the OP for how folks can quickly find their username (etc) to update their daily chart, as suggested by Strandfloh. (Thanks for the suggestion Strandfloh!)

Not only Japanese, but Korean too is on the web now, and the interface and exercises are identical to the app (there is even the Match the pairs exercise).
(Edit: after doing few exercises, they're not exactly identical, the Japanese exercises are still written on the web, testing the Korean).
Later: After 40XP along the Korean tree (alphabet, food, sports, travel), I didn't come across any hangul written exercises.

      You're welcome!

I may have to give up on this challenge :-(. Since the redesign I can use Duo only with a userstyle (visual impairments). Duo changed the stylesheet, and the userstyle has to be adapted which may take a few days.

It's an old thread I know, but I was wondering if there were any bunny challenges recently.
Did I just miss them (which could very well be) or have you stopped making them?

Greetings to my favourite blue bunny from the turquoise owl. :)

      Hi tiramisues!

No, none recently. Though, I plan to do more in the future! I've just been too sick the last 3 months to participate much of anything at all. So, I've had to be exceedingly choosy with the limited number of "spoons" when I get them. Recently, I've had a bit more energy though, so slowly but surely I'm spending less time in bed. Before I knew my immune system was taking a dive, I scheduled for a 5K race that arrives next month. Eep! At the very least, I'd like to walk it. So, trying to do a bit of walking when I'm able and also spend a little time with my offline friends. This means I've had to take a break from moderating and the forums, as those take up my out of bed time. I'm glad I saw this though! It made me feel warm and happy to see your message. :)

I'm sorry to hear that you've been in bad health, Usagi! I understand and fully support that you have to ration your energy and take care of yourself. It's way more important than the internet! Just know that you are missed, but don't stress yourself out about it, the internet will still be here when you feel up to it and feel better, no matter if it takes days, weeks or month.

I wish you all the best for the 5K race or walk, whatever it might be and I hope you'll keep feeling better and better!
