I want to open my ears to Swedish... Help me...

Hello! My name is Minwoo and I finished the Swedish tree long ago. Ever since, I have read books, transcripts and tried to translate them one by one. I found out reading is not such a big problem, when you are accompanied with a dictionary. The thing that I found problematic was listening. I tried to listen to Swedish Videos, but I can only hear segments of sentences and a few words. I don't think this will help me improve in listening since I can learn nothing from it. So, It would be nice if you guys could recommend me any media/video/sites that can improve my Swedish listening skills. It would be much help if the content is fun (not necessary) or it has English/Swedish subtitles that I can learn from. Thanks for reading and please help me... I am trying to make a Svenska club in my School until next year. Thanks for the attention. Tack så mycket!

Hi Minwoo,

I found STV really useful - you can watch many tv programmes online free. There is also an STV phone app. As my Swedish was fairly basic, I used to watch children's programmes with Swedish subtitles. Kid's programmes are usually short, and the vocabulary is fairly easy. I used to like the kid's quiz Vem Vet Mest junior - to see if I could understand the questions quickly enough to answer them before the kid's answered.

I also used to listen to stories on Sveriges Radio. It was too difficult for me to understand properly, but I think it helped in getting me used to hearing the sounds. https://sverigesradio.se/sida/avsnitt?programid=1111

Good luck, Jane

The television series The Bonus Family is available on Netflix, and I am not sure where you are, but in the U.S,. Swedish subtitles are available with the show. I have learned a lot of conversational Swedish there.
