So I've started learning Spanish.
So i've decided to really go for it this time, I flirted with learning Spanish back in 2012, I got half way through a BBC teach yourself holiday Spanish book then packed it in as I lost interest I guess. So started Duolingo with just knowing basic phrases like Hasta luego, adios etc.. I started the Duolingo course last month (sep 17) and I am really impressed by how much I have learned already and I'm only half way through the tree. I have also started listening to Spanish music, Nicky Jam is good, and listen to him on my MP3 when I'm doing my long runs. I also listen to radio Marca sports podcasts when i'm doing chores in the house. I'm currently watching the spanish version of breaking bad (metastasis) online on youtube, think its Colombian but can only understand little bits of it at the moment. I have also ordered a book called Easy Spanish step by step, which I intend to spend at least 30mins per day on when it arrives. I go to Majorca on holiday in June 2018 so will be interesting to see what level my Spanish is at then. Only time will tell.
You are really immersing yourself in the book work.....let us know how your effort turns out in real time. :) Good luck and enjoy a Lingot.
Sí, Metástasis es colombiana. Cuando hayas progresado más en el curso creo que la entenderás muy bien. Espero que te vaya muy bien y sigas aprendiendo.
One note: In Majorca Catalan is widely spoken. Maybe you should learn the basics (and there is Catalan for Spanish speakers course in Duolingo).
Would Catalan be taught as a first language in Majorca? Or are Spanish and Catalan both taught equally starting in Primary school?
Coffee Break Spanish is a great free podcast.
I would also try and resist speaking English when you're in Majorca unless everyone around you is a Swedish DJ who can't understand you....
Buena suerte con tu aprendizaje. Se ve que eres muy esmerado, yo no soy así con el francés, sólo leo cuentos y canciones de vez en cuando. Tal vez ya estés listo para dar el siguiente paso y conversar con hablantes nativos.
