Bought Duolingo Plus but still seeing ads and can't download skills...

I just bought Duolingo Plus 2 days ago but I am still seeing ads and I cannot download skills or access certain functionality like Test Out or open new skills. Anyone have a solution?

Please, read the comments in this discussion

There are so many complaints in the discussion forums about this issue and other issues in Duolingo's paid services!

I wonder if all of the other bugs since the update have caused problems in this area as well. I hope they can get it all worked out soon.

I don't think so.
I see many complaints about Duolingo's paid services from the start of each paid service (Streak repair, gems and Duolingo plus).

People become really angry and they are right, because it costs them a lot of money.

I wonder what percentage they are, and if they fall into a normal percentage for in app purchase complaints (across other companies).

Me too.

However, " a normal % across other companies" should never be a reason for a company to run the troubleshooting for the "paid services" at the same low level as the troubleshooting for the "free services".

For the "paid Duolingo services" .....

  • there should be a "report an issue button" in the Duolingo Lingot/Gems shop, that is available for each service you have paid for in your Duolingo account

  • if Duolingo's staff cannot resolve the problem within 48 hours, the custumer should be able to click on a button "unsubscribe to this paid service and refund the money within a week".
Especially for Duolingo Plus, because this is extremely expensive.

IOS or Android?

Can you add any screenshot and error messages?

You can not even open anymore new skills or hit the "Test out" button?
Sounds more like a bug with the latest mobile app or corrupted data (tree does not sync successfully).
That has IMHO nothing to do with "DuoLingo Plus".

In the latter case I would try a different app version (if you are on Android), upgrade to their latest alpha/beta version (which they never seem to test enough before) or simply delete cache+data files and re-login or re-install the app (also deletes all data files).

Ads: Are you guys 100% sure that Plus turns off ads?

You are right. It was mentioned twice in the help + CEO thread.

However, there have been more than two user threads complaining about ads were not removed with Plus :-)

There are a few troubleshooting articles in the Help Center. If you are on desktop, hover the mouse over your username in the blue bar at the top of the screen. A menu will drop down. From the options, click "Help". Scroll down a bit. The Duolingo Plus articles are on the left side. If you're not on desktop, click here: (It's just good to learn how to find it because so many useful articles are there. :)

Under "Help" you can find the green "Submit bug report"

Please include screenshot, detail error description.
You will receive an auto reply message and bug id once they received your ticket.

You should maybe NOT expect that any 2nd/3rd level technical staff or developer writes back to help in debugging, tracing and troubleshooting (it may be different with Plus).$comment_id=23588161

I re-tested my "offline cache mode" issues with two more recent Android app versions on Bluestacks V3 (before V2) and it was definitely better, however, I did not really test 10 lessons across 2 NEW skills.

The whole tree sync (and corrupted data files) and Android app crashes (even on startup) is still a complete mysterium to me.
