RE-Learning a language?!? is it possible HELP?

I have spent 3 years learning german and then I moved to a new city where the people here mainly speak Spanish so I took time off for 2 and a half years unexpectedly to learn Spanish(in emersion) now that I speak Spanish to a high degree I wanted to come back to studying german but I seem to have forgotten so much..my grandmother had moved to the united states after ww2 from Germany and hadn't spoken german for 70 years until she found her long lost sister and in 8 months she regained her "mother-tongue" back with no accent! is that possible for me?!

Hi Daniel,

yes, it is. Of course it is! Give yourself a chance. I had that with another language. My advice, start with listening german. TV, youtube whatever. Take films, series you know already and look them in german (youtube is a good resource for that). Give your brain a chance to reboot. You will see, everytime you listen you will remember a little bit more. Than you can start to speak again (and you will be surprised how much your brain "stored")

I took French in HS many years ago and wasn't really very good at it. Some months ago I learned that a French couple would be visiting so I started the French course. To my amazement, I completed it in less than a month. Managed with rather halting French to speak to my visitors. Now I'm going on. I am not fluent, but I can understand a lot and even get my ideas across and I'm motivated to keep practicing.

Therefore, I believe that after the initial stumbling you'll be able to pick up the German where you left off.
