On Irish, there seems to be a problem with some of the words.

Why does it pronounce some words but leaves out the other words. How am I supposed to learn Irish if I don't know how to pronounce the words? Any help?

The Irish course doesn't use a computerized text to speech engine to "speak" the text, and relies on recordings of an actual person reading the text. Because of the cost and complexity of managing this process, not all sentences have audio, but all words should occur in audio at least once.

The availability of any audio at all is the solution to the "problem" of the lack of a suitable TTS engine, and Irish isn't the only language on Duolingo with this feature.

Keep working through the course and you'll meet phrases with audio. The first couple of levels have very little and that was frustrating, but now I'm on lessons with many more audio files and so it's got better, Use the early lessons to concentrate on spelling.

See you further along the line (or up/down the tree!!)

Sometimes if you go to discussion at the bottom of the page, the audio works on that page. It is worth it drumming it into you whenever you do get the sound though...Good luck!

Irish has "English to Irish" and "Irish to English" exercises. The "English to Irish" exercises obviously don't "speak" any Irish audio when the exercise is first displayed, but the discussion page for that exercise will still allow you to hear the Irish sentence, if the audio is available. The "Irish to English" exercises "speak" the Irish audio automatically when the exercise is displayed if there is audio available for that exercise.
