This entire section (food category) does not make sense at all. Grammatically yes, but I think it's better if everyday-usage sentences are formed.
I suppose weird sentences help you remember better as you are actually trying to understand it, rather than reading a select few words and simply guess the sentence from context clues?

The sentences "고기가 저를 먹습니다" and "고기가 저를 먹어요" appeared to me in a multiple choice question. As far as I know, both are correct. Duolingo has marked the later incorrect. I flagged it. Making this comment just as caution for other students.

It is one strategy to help your brain to remember something.
Memorization courses talk about this "technique".
