Using お before nouns

I've noticed this not only on Duolingo, but on other Japanese sites. Why is it that sometimes an "o" sound is put before various nouns, like お名前 (name), お誕生日(birthday), or お金(money)? Does it imply a "your" (your name, your birthday) or does it make the noun polite? Thank you ^^

It indicates politeness and respect.

Haha I didn't even realize this had posted--it had given me an error message when I tried. Either way, thank you for the help! ^^
