Interest in Latin
I would like to see duolingo open a course in Latin. Would anyone else like to see this? I wonder why this is not already in this system?
If Duolingo has High Valyrian, then it should develop Latin!
Latin is one of those classical languages that still impact the languages we use today.
I agree! I would love a convenient way to learn it. My goal is to learn as many romance languages as I can and I'm pretty sure they are all derived from Latin, so I want to learn it to make everything else easier. And that aside, Latin is still used in science and other fields so I don't see why not to have it.
i speak french. does dnaish count? even if no, it sounds very romantic. i am a romantic so i think i will go to denmark 4 my honeymoon
Romance languages have nothing to do with love or romance. They are the languages that derive from Latin (“Roman”) as a base. French, Spanish, Italian, Romanian, Portuguese all descend from Latin.
Danish, although a lovely language, is not a romance language. It is a North Germanic language, descended from Old Norse.
Yes!!!! I would love to have it in Duolingo!!!! That would be awesome!
I would love to see Latin, but it would be quite the complex task. I have heard that the variability of word order could pose a problem.
Or instead of learning 6 languages to learn 1, you could just, learn the language you intended to learn..?
Well, Duolingo does that have that so I suggested what they could do here.
Latin is fantastic. But I believe Duolingo tries to focus on living languages.
Those languages are still not useful unless you're an actor/actress for their respective franchises.
latin is coming back a lot... don't be so sure. anyway... many people are now speaking latin-- it might even overpower those small languages like welsh and irish, and especially klingon and high valerian
I would love it and I dont understand like you why they dont have it up and running. so many different languages are based off of latin. like spanish, Italin. portugese etc... It would just make more sense to teach latin first.
