It would have to be "an/the element has ...".
"Elements have ..." would be "elementi zina ..."
What on Earth does this mean? Elements are kinds of atom! It's like "a species of animal has many animals." Am I supposed to think of it as being like "A species has many individuals."?

Think of it more like "a species has many specimens", that is, a species is the theoretic description and specimens are actual individuals. Likewise, an element is a definition and atoms are instances of that definition.
I think this is a contributors mistake. I would guess they are mistakingly classing things like neutrons, protons and electrons as types of atoms.
