[Bug EN>DE] "Der Junge, das Mädchen"

Judging by the number of comments about it, there seems to be a bug on this translation exercise (or some variant of it): https://www.duolingo.com/comment/8869480

This seems to be going unanswered/unaddressed and may be a bit of a road block to users continuing with their lesson, not to mention sowing confusion.

I haven't experienced it myself, but it seems that based on the number of similar comments from inexperienced users who are even incapable of upvoting one post about the issue, it seems unlikely that many bug reports are being filed.

Just thought I'd bring it to someone's attention.

If you read the comments, you will notice a theme of recent comments from new and less new users saying something like "the correct answer is not accepted", "cannot proceed - I put in the right answer and it won't accept it" and so on. I haven't encountered the bug personally so I can't confirm exactly what the problem is, but I am subscribed to many sentence discussions and this sentence in particular attracts these comments (i.e. I do believe there is a real bug, not just a common misunderstanding).

Perhaps it's something to do with the style of questions the mobile apps use, like rearranging the tiles? Or maybe it's a multiple-choice-type problem? Someone experienced with troubleshooting should be able to figure it out based on the comments there.

The only thing I can see that is similar to what you are describing is people asking why it is 'das madchen' not 'die madchen' which is just people mixing up grammatical gender with actual gender

Look deeper. I count 17 comments about the issue I was describing, all somehow relating to "der not being available", which sounds like a bug in a select-the-tiles or multiple choice question.

I'd appreciate any help reversing the downvoting too, by the way. That doesn't seem appropriate for a troubleshooting post.
