What helps me remember this word is 목소리, which translates to "voice". Sound/noise = 소리 and throat = 목. Kinda "noise from the throat".

This word can also mean 'throat', I believe. A quick check on Naver confirms my belief. Although Duo marked me as wrong for typing that.
