I have 539 XP points. What are they for? What do they mean? How do I accumulate them? I'm now at level 6 and you would think I'd have things like this figured out by now.

The points are just a way for you to keep track of how much work you do. It is highly personal and the number does not have much meaning outside of yourself. You can get them doing lessons, doing practice and doing the immersion section translations.

And it determines your level. When you get to 30,000 XP (I think) you will be at level 25.

I can confirm that 30,000 XP gets you to level 25, the highest level.

Don't let it get you down. In the beginning we all have a hard time figuring out how DL works. It is a continuing sore point with me. There are places that explain it but they are hard to find and I can't tell you where they are. Keep reading discussions and you will run across the directions, called guides, sooner or later. Points are just an indication of how many lessons or practice sessions you have completed and/or articles you have translated. A rough indication of the time you have spent on DL I say rough because you can spend five hours trying to finish a lesson or five minutes. In each case you get 10 to 13 points when you finish. Points have no relationship to the tree. Lingots on the other hand are valuable, you can trade them for an extra heart so that you can make one more mistake per lesson without having to start over. You have to buy the extra heart before you start a lesson, but if you don't use your extra heart it stays with you until you do need it. Above all don't give up on DL.
