Nice blog to help you discover contemporary french music
Want to become acquainted with French music, but don't know where to start? http://www.frenchmusicblog.com/ Here is a site that I found rather interesting. It helped me discover a few artists to add to the playlist. My favourite by far is Christophe Maé. Who's yours? =)
I really like Coeur De Pirate, she's from Quebec. Stromae is amazing. Eartha Kitt from back in the day is really good too, haha
I'd also highly recommend the online NRJ radio station because it plays all the popular music in France. If you just want the songs that are actually French, check out the stations on NRJ called NRJ French or NRJ Made in France.
Excellent site, thanks, only really know two mentioned, Camille and Vanessa Paradis, checking out Monsieur Maé en ce moment...
Merci! J'aime Émilie Simon et Coeur de Pirate. I did not know about these singers until this post!
stromae is really good! I love 'papa ou t'est' we learned it in French class :D
I like that song. I like singing "alors on danse" at the top of my voice too :)
I like listening to Zazie, Indila and Zaho. Zazie has a large catalog of songs, Indila and Zaho are newer artists. For other artists, there is a Youtube channel called "Learn French with", and the channel host has posted dozens of classic songs with subtitles in English/Spanish/French. The lyricstranslate.com site is very helpful with songs that do not have subtitles on the screen.
I recently discovered Stromae and really like him. I have his CD in the car :)
"Melody's echo chamber"! most of her songs are in English, but some are in French. "Coeur de Pirate" is also great! "Noir Désir".
I haven't really listened to anyone else but I really like Stromae's music. The subjects he sings about are really diverse and actually have meaning to them. Tous les mêmes, AVF and Formidable are some of my favourites. There's a rap group called Sexion d'Assaut but I think you'd have to be very good at French to understand what they're saying. Desolé is my favourite song by them
Beware with "Sexion d'assault", as a rap band, they use to butchering the French grammar. However, if you're good enough to understand them, I guess you would be able to notice their grammar mistakes.
Jacques Brel (ok, he is from Belgium), Mademoiselle K (rock pop) and Jacques Dutronc (70's French music)
