Resigning as a moderator / contributor
Edit, July 2nd, 2018: Okay, so disregard the below, I'm apparently back again.
I'm writing this post to mention that I am resigning from my position as a moderator / contributor to the Swedish course, effective tomorrow. Duolingo is rolling out a new volunteer's agreement, one with which I don't really agree, and so I will be moving on to other things instead.
I want to stress that there's no drama - I completely understand that Duolingo needs to maintain guidelines, and it's perfectly natural to agree with them at some times but not at others. This time, for me, it is regrettably the latter case. I wish Duolingo all the best for the future, and I'm grateful towards the company, towards those of its employees to whom I've spoken, and to the rest of the Swedish team for having given me this opportunity. You guys rock! :)
The second reason for writing this post, apart from thanking people, is that the comments I have written will now go unanswered. While my number of contributions may be dwarfed by those of others, I have written enough that I know people will be asking follow-up questions for months or years to come. I wanted to let you know somewhere that I won't likely be replying to them any longer, come tomorrow.
I've had the amazing opportunity of getting to follow and aid the growth and prowess of some fantastic people wanting to learn my mother tongue, and I've enjoyed it immensely. It's been an absolute pleasure to serve you! But it's time for me to do something else with my spare time from now on. Take care, everyone. And lycka till! :)
You'll be missed! I saw so many of your comments and they helped me a great deal, but I understand that sometimes it's just time to move on, when things change.
Thank you so much for all the work you did for the course and in the comments! And good luck and have fun, with whatever you will do now!
We will miss you and I appreciate you telling us. I have only been with the Swedish course (and Duo in general for that matter) for a little more than half a year, but because of the hard work of you and other contributors/mods, I have had such an incredibly rewarding experience learning Swedish. Thank you so much. For providing knowledge in your own valuable time, and for taking part in making the learners-teachers dynamic in Duo-SV a true community experience, either through forum activities, or answering people's questions (and I'm a question-fiend myself so I know what I'm talking about :p ). Take care and rock on! I wish you all the best in everything.
Thank you so much for all the time & effort you've put in here :-)
I moderated some boards (nothing to do with language) on a very personal level for a few years and am very aware of how attached one can become to online realms & friendships :-)
It's an amazing amount of work you have put into this place and your help is greatly appreciated (and I'm guessing it will continue to be beneficial for a long while as well) :-)
I've only recently begun to use these discussion boards and have seen your insightful tips & replies everywhere! Please know that your efforts have been so helpful to those of us who need to learn these languages better :-)
Enjoy your newfound 'Free Time'... you deserve it Joel!
Wishing you wonderful days ahead :-)
We’ll all miss you! You have been very helpful and active in the Swedish forums and have answered many questions. I thank you for all the hard work you have done as a moderator and I’m sad to see you go. I know that sometimes it’s time to move on and do new things. I have looked at your comments and they have been helpful to me.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!! STAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! (I understand, and your reasoning makes complete sense... but you will be horribly horribly missed. Maybe Duolingo can reconsider things and you can come back soon?????)
Tack så så väldigt mycket för alla dina fantastiska svar! Vi kommer att sakna dig... Lycka till!
Joel, I will miss your comments and responses to all my questions and, because this is social media, I will miss you. You have enriched my Swedish-learning adventure! Best Wishes to you in all that you do. Candy
I guess you won't be replying to this a week later, but hopefully you'll at least be reading the comments on the forums from time to time. I wanted to say a big thanks for everything you have done to make this awesome course even better, and for helping me and everyone else out so many times with all of the questions we have had about the nuances of Swedish. Your inputs and contributions will be missed.
Lycka till med vad du än gör, och vi hoppas att du uppnår alla dina mål i framtiden :)
