Accents on Greek Vowels when using the Greek Keyboard on Chromebook
Hi! I'm an English speaker just starting Greek in Duolingo, and I happen to be using a Chromebook (Chrome v. 61.0.3163.123).
I added the Greek language keyboard to my Chromebook (that was easy), but I cannot figure out how to type accented vowels on that particular keyboard.
Googling the terms "Greek," "Keyboard," "Chromebook," and "accents" all return instructions on how to type accents on the INTL keyboard, but I'm using the Chromebook's Greek keyboard, NOT the INTL keyboard.
Does anybody out there know how to type accented vowels on the Chromebook Greek keyboard?
Well, persistent playing around has finally given me my own answer!
Here it is: Press the Right-Alt key and the apostrophe key at the same time, then release. Then press the vowel you want accented and voilà, there you have it! ὰὲὶὸὴὼὺ
For capital letters it's still Rt-Alt + apostrophe, then Shift+vowel: ᾺῈῚῸῊῺῪ
There really isn't any information on the Greek chromebook keyboard online!! I tried searching in Greek and even tried youtube as a search engine...nothing!
Out of curiosity, could you try a few more key combinations to get the acute accent (΄) on the letters?
Because, as much as I hate to be the one to say it and rain on your parade, I have to: the grave accent (`) is the wrong one for Modern Greek :( Check this wikipedia article for more information on Greek language diacritics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_diacritics
By all means, if you find that using the grave accent does not create any problems with your answers being accepted go on and use it. It is very important to learnt the words with the correct accent placement and only typing the accents is going to reinforce that. Welcome to the course and happy learning! :D
Thank you Donhixote! Works for me too now, and I'm in the exact same position. Just a year later... ά ὲ
Duo should give an award for that. So, here are a few lingots With patience and perseverance, you worked it out.
Here are some useful links we've prepared which I hope you will find interesting. (even a hint for the accent ;-).
