Getting blipped off Duolingo
I started this discussion in Duolingo and then reported it to Troubleshooting on the advise of several members. This has been happening to me lately, most recently several times tonight. Previously I thought it was due to a static electricity charge caused by my blanket. Tonight I imagined it was because the system started a new day giving me an opportunity to continue my streak. But just now, it did it again, while I was mid-lesson and doing a good job with a likelihood of success when I was interrupted by a blip that "refreshed" me back to beginning the lesson anew. SO frustrating! Is this happening to anyone else, or is it just me? When it happens it takes me to the icon page of the I-Pad tablet ; I select Safari and it opens to Duolingo and I've totally lost my lesson. The operating system is iOS7.1 and the browser is Safari. Thanks to everyone who commented when this was posted in Duolingo and helped me get this transferred to Troubleshooting.
@Luis with help I found out the I-pad uses iOS7.1 and the browser is Safari. The OS version is up to date according to Settings. It's my husband's tablet so I can't make any changes to the browser. It might be the computer. I use my son's I-pad (often) and I've never had it happen on his tablet. I really like computers, but they don't like me back so much.
We need some more info from you! Some of you have given the model and browser, but if you haven't shared the other info please do! Thanks :)
- What type of lesson are you doing? (skill lesson, timed practice or regular practice)
- Which iPad model are you using?
- Is there a behavior pattern? Are you leaving the screen to go to another browser window or app, for example?
Hi kristinemc, 1. I'm either strengthening a specific skill or doing general strengthening. 2. I'm using iPad model MD516LL/A 3. I am only doing the lesson. I don't navigate away as I've already learned that that has negative results. If you need anymore information, just let me know.
Hi @FLchick and others that reported this:
We were able to reproduce this but it seems to only happen if you're blocking all cookies on Safari. Could you please confirm this is the case?
To check, go to Settings in your iPad then Safari and see if Block Cookies is set to "Always". If so, try changing to "From third parties..." and see if it still crashes for you. Let us know if this works!
I have now been blipped off the lesson too. Usually i use my laptop, but im on my ipad today (safari 7.1) i was doing subjunctive imp. Partway through my second attempt my browser shut. So i opened it and the page reloaded. I was using websit when this happened, not the app. It was about 3 min ago.
The only time i have had something like this happen is when I have been part way through a lesson on my iPad app and then switched to my browser to check on something on the internet. I have assumed that the browser then connects to DL (I have a DL page always open) and whatever it does it seems to reset my app to its initial state.
Are you doing anything similar?
Actually, I did. I was working on an immersion article, and the screen kept blipping...not refreshing, just flipping between a blank white screen and the normal article view.
I suggest you move this to the Troubleshooting forums. You should be able to edit your first post to change the forum.
Could you please subscribe to the Troubleshooting forum, then come back here and edit your post. At that time, you'll want to select "Troubleshooting" from the drop-down menu instead of "Duolingo".
Also, please add your operating system and browser (For instance, mine are Windows7/Firefox).
To find out which version of the operating system, turn on your iPad, go to Settings (my icon for settings is a sprocket or gear thing, yours might be as well), then go to General and on the right look for Version. Whatever is listed under Version is your operating system. (For example, mine says 7.1) To get a specific idea of what 7.1 applies to, you can go to Settings, General, and on the right Software Update (Here mine says iOS 7.1)
Next, under the icon you are using to access the internet, under it should be the name. (For example, mine says Safari.)
I hope this helps! ^_^
I am very happy to see that I am not the only one with this problem. Using ipad version 7.1 and iOS 7.1 with Safari for ten days now when I do the tree exercises, half way through the site closes. This only happens with the tree, not the case with discussion, immersion etc. I switched to app. This works perfectly but I don't like the app. It is too simple. It does seem to be a glitch, i hope a solution can be found. Checked Cookies it is set to third parties so no solution there
