Profile Picture Meanings!
Hey everyone! Like many of you, I chose a profile picture. I ended up choosing my dog, Coco, because she is way more interesting than the default person outline profile :) I see a lot of profile pictures, and I have no idea how it connects to the person. How does your profile picture have to do with you, or is it just random??? :)
The main feature of all version of my profile picture have been the light blue "Flying Bunny" graciously loaned to me by permission of the artist Tara McPherson. Why a bunny? My username "Usagi" is Japanese for "bunny" or "rabbit". There is a whole background story behind my username, but I'm pretty tired. I've written it out before. If I can find it, I'll add that later.
Over the years, there have been a several different iterations to my profile picture. Sometimes I'll put important dates in the picture to commemorate historical events, or I'll put little charms in it to acknowledge friends.
Eventually, the most common background has been the Genderqueer flag (purple (lavender), white, and green (chartreuse), the Transgender flag (blue, pink, white, pink, and blue), or a combination of both flags. Under the bunny has been a reference to Tara McPherson.
Currently, there is also a light blue X to the left of the Flying Bunny. Very recently my birth state, California, passed a bill so that non-binary will be a legally recognized third gender designation (represented by the letter X). It goes into effect on January 1, 2019.
Oregon's DMV allows people to choose an X for their identity. X simply means "unspecified". It is an alternative to male or female designation. The largest percentage of X designation holders are non-binary, however, like my best friend, some are cisgender. As a non-binary person (agender, specifically), I have an X on my Oregon ID and will be getting an X on my Birth Certificate in 2019.
I also currently have a gold ring around my profile and a globe. It designates me as a gold global ambassador forum moderator (this is the alpha launch of a new program. This ring has changed over the years. When I first joined as a 1st gen mod, I can't recall if there was a ring or not. Then as a legacy mod I think there was a ring. As a global mod there was definitely a ring. Sometime later a shield was added to the green ring. And now I've got a gold ring.
For those interested specifically in the evolution of the Duolingo forum moderator, it goes like this: Forum Moderator (1st generation Duolingo mods) ➡️ Legacy mod (All 1st, some 2nd gen) and Regional mod (some 2nd gen + later gen) ➡️ Global mod (no longer gen based) and Regional mod (no longer gen based) ➡️ Gold Global Ambassador mod (Formerly called Global mods) and Green Global Ambassador mod (formerly called Regional mods). Though, we just say Gold and Green mod for short. I kinda liked the sound of "global mod" myself, though, "global ambassador" sounds cool too. ^_^
No. Mods have "MOD" next to their usernames when they comment in a forum where they mod, or if you hover over our profile pictures regardless if we mod that particular forum or a different one. Insiders are general users who staff recognizes for their ongoing, positive contributions.
Mine is a picture of my little dog Lucy. I wanted her there because she has a neurological disease that will take her life sometime soon, but meanwhile she is one of the happiest creatures I know. So I love having her little face reminding me to love and enjoy all I do in the time I have..
My profile picture is Adygeaball, the Polandball form of Adygea. I chose it out of my love for the Circassian language and culture. (The Adygean flag is actually the flag for all Circassians.) My PFP used to be a cut-portion of the Circassian flag, but I switched to Adygeaball since the whole flag can be seen, plus I enjoy reading Polandball.
My profile picture combines my love for my country and mother tongue, and my favourite green owl Duo. I am more comfortable using a pencil and paper than creating images digitally, so I took a Swedish Duo and messed with it. Since the profile pics are so small, you probably cannot tell how bad a job I did. I will include an enlarged image in this comment, so that you can appreciate all the specks of Swedish yellowness still clearly visible in the image. :)
This is a cat from my science textbook from fifth grade. It was when we were learning about thermal energy. I also really love cats and science so it was the perfect picture!
Well, my profile picture is a girl with headphones on holding a cup. It's kind of like me in real life. Also, she has purple hair. The original picture didn't have purple hair I colored it like that. One of my favorite colors is purple. Oh and if you look closely you'll see the words....,ディスクジョッキー エンジェル モンスター, which means Disc Jockey Angel Monster in Japanese. I have that because of my Youtube channel. So yeah, that explains my picture.
my profile is my name and a "definition" it is really awesome!!! this is what is says: 1 Destiny:the way one person in a world with 6 billion others can find the only person with a key to unlock their heart. 2 This beautiful life we are building together and the dreams on the horizon we are yet to achieve!
I really love owls, so I wanted to find a funny Duo picture. I found this one through a Google search, sourced from an archived discussion. The discussion was about how the same phrase in two related languages (I’m not sure what the languages were... possibly Dutch and Afrikaans) could mean “Duo is wearing a dress” and “Duo is wearing a rug”. There was an illustration of Duo in both “outfits”. My pic is of him wearing his rug!
