There are sentences like "Our factory was opened..." in this lesson. Is "opened" really correct form?
To ano, ale ptal jsem se na angličtinu. Určitě je správně "was opened"? Tato odpověď je vyžadována v několika větách v lekci Passives. Např. ve větě: "Our factory was opened fifty years ago."
Měl jsem za to, že správně je "was open". Viz výklad: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/grammar/british-grammar/open-or-opened
It was open = It was not closed. (two states: open, closed)
It was opened. = Someone opened it.
The factory was opened fifteen years ago (opened is the correct form here, it means someone opened it then).
Fifteen years ago, the factory was open. Now it is closed. (open is correct as well, but the meaning is different.)
Thank you very much for your detailed explanation. This is something new for me...
