New Avatar Rings for Moderators?
You may have noticed the new rings around some profile pictures here in the forums.
Our Global Ambassador program is rolling out, and now you can see the rings recognizing people who dedicate time, skill, and love to Duolingo so that you can enjoy your language learning experience as much as possible.
There are four types of Global Ambassador:
- Forum Moderators
- Course Contributors
- Teacher Ambassadors
- Event Hosts
All of these now have a visible green or gold avatar ring in the forums and on their profile. You can hover over each person to see which type of Ambassador they are. Moderators will additionally have a “MOD” flair show up next to their picture if they can moderate in that particular forum.
Join us in thanking all Global Ambassadors for sharing their time with the Duolingo community!

Hi! Thanks for all the great work. Do you know what happened to Duolingo's Russian font? Starting this morning the letters are all so far apart it is hard to read words.
Yes they have as it's not anyone creating a classroom who has an Ambassador ring but the users who applied then were selected by Duolingo to be a "Teacher Ambassador". You can read more about Teacher Ambassadors in the Support Pages' article "Apply to Become a Teacher Ambassador".

Yep! Every Event Host is vetted and trained by staff, and we stay in touch making sure that they have what they need to run awesome successful events, which we see them doing through our events platform. :)
And just for those who perhaps may be reading this, and are not aware of this program. Check out Events
I already said it in jrikhal's post, but I'll say it here, since it's stickied and more people will read it: I'm all for recognizing the awesome people who do so much to make this work! But.. (yeah, there's a but)
I think mods should be easier to spot than just by a flare. Maybe they should get their own colour or a shield instead of the globe something like that. Since the display is mainly for the people using discussions, the people who have a responsibility here, as someone who helps and who's answer to problems or questions about the guidelines hold some additional value, should be spotted by a glance, even from the topic overview and not just with a grey flare or a hover. Especially if the number of people with rings rises, through events etc.
I fear it could otherwise get confusing for newbies or even folks who've been here longer but either don't know everyone, go to a different subforum or just don't pay the attention.

By clicking on the blue writing above.
It will explain more about the rings.
Hi --Husky--,
see one of those Support Pages' articles:
- "Apply to Become a Forum Moderator"
- "Who are the forum moderators?"
- "Apply to Become a Global Ambassador"
Note: When you're experiencing a problem/bug/glitch on Duolingo or more generally have a question about how Duolingo works (or should work), please do the following before creating a new discussion:
- start by looking if there is a solution described in the Support Pages.
If there are no solutions there, - Use the forum search-engine to search for older discussions about the same subject. Don’t hesitate to make various searches with different keywords and make searches combining several keywords/expressions using standard logical operators (
&&
,||
) and/or quote marks.
If you don’t find anything, - read in the Troubleshooting forum the last days new messages — scroll down (and read) a few pages of the tab “New” of said forum — to see if anyone has already started a discussion about the same issue. If nothing in the “New” tab, try the "Popular" tab of the same forum.
If nothing there, - check the few sticky messages of the "General" forum (for English speakers) to see if there is an announcement related to your issue.
If still nothing, - post your question in the Troubleshooting forum.

jrikhal, thank you for the suggestions. I personally have done 90% of my Duolingo on my phone app, so I am not good at searching through the right places, have just been frustrated trying to find the proper place to address MY problem; maybe you can help guide me? I have seen FAQ about losing streaks, but NOT LINGOTS!
Yesterday when I was "upgraded" to CROWNS, my Lingot total went from 4905 to 490. That seems like the last digit was just dropped somehow, but 4,415 Lingots is a LOT to have disappear with no recourse! As of today, April 9, 2018, my Android phone app still has the correct total for proof, but I saw on a discussion that some users' phone apps were ALSO being updated without users wanting the change. ¡Me ayuda, por favor!
I also have suggested as an improvement, keep hoping someone at Duo will make something like this happen, for Lingots be able to buy useful fun items (dressing the owl is useless), like longer streak freezes for vacations (say, after going 500 days straight), or T-shirts with Duo funny sentences, like "Mi oso comíó tu pingúino," or, "Sí, mi elefante absolutamente lo hizo!" in the most common languages. (I hope I said those correctly; can the pronoun go there?) Users everywhere would know a Duo-user on sight with shirts like that - great advertising! - something like 100 Lingots could be combined with money shipping and handling to support your site.
As an aside, I saw recently a lot of my suggested translations have been accepted, and perhaps that's why I saw I had a little golden ring on my home page, where the XP levels are posted, but not here? It must be for my willingness and many posts helping with English grammar, over the three or four years I've enjoyed the site, because I am only a casual user in my Spanish studies. Since they stopped letting us post from the phone app, I have missed that feature so much! My thanks to those of you who help with Spanish and with technical issues, with which I am not good at all!
This looks great on mods duo but isn't it time you make rings for your self so it is that bit more fair. Trust me I am not a mod to say that but it should be that bit more fair because you work just as hard as them and you have not had any ring updates. If you make these updates then please can I request 1 thing? Junior mods with silver rings?
