"Walking down" is a more natural translation.

Grammatically speaking, 下去 is a result complement, and when it is attached to a verb it usually means "continuously doing something", carrying on. The translation is completely off... it makes no sense in English. 走下去 would actually mean something like "to go on", or "to walk on".
