Quite a few restaurants I have been to in China don't have many plates, if any. Most people eat from bowls.

"We don't have plates" and "We have no plates" are totally equivalent in English.
I think 'we have no plates' should be acceptable.

Sorry, we have no plates. The words, 没有, as I learned it, is to have none - literally the absence of something. As in I 没有 patience for the rigid system Duolingo uses. LOL.
