importance of punctuation

hi, often in online messaging boards you see people omitting punctuation marks in english, e.g. "theres" instead of "there's" or "isnt" instead of "isn't," etc. etc.

i personally don't talk like this most of the time but i'm usually still able to read the sentences of people who do pretty easily. is the same true in french? could i say "jai" instead of "j'ai" or "lencas" instead of "l'en-cas"? would my sentences even be legible if i omitted the punctuation?

obviously if you're writing a book or an email or really anything important you would always try your best to use proper grammar and punctuation, but basically i'm asking about the importance of punctuation in french especially in more modern environments like chat rooms or text messages where people might be more likely to omit apostrophes, hyphens, and whatever else.

I would say no.

Children, may be, might be able to write without applying themselves.

You mention blogs, they are often well written. In this case, why did not you put any capital letters in your text?

But, having said that, I am too old to frequent the places you are talking about and where we would make fun of the French spelling.

If you wanted to seduce a boy or a girl by mail, you will make an effort to write correctly, especially if you hope for some success. If you are writing like a child, it will not be good for your business.

Look at this, of course punctuation is important in French :

On va manger, les enfants !

Kids, we are going to eat !

    On va manger les enfants.

We are going to eat the kids.

Just like in any other language, people tend to use shortcuts while using modern technology.

For example, take a look at this discussion in the reverse course and observe how many comments are written properly. It mirrors how young people chat and text nowadays.

    I agree with this. ^^

As far as accents on the letters, although they are important, I have noticed a lot of younger french people dont always use them when texting with friends.

Apart from that I would just stick to the punctuation as it is, but I'm not French I am only going off what I have noticed when talking with french people, Punctuation is very important.
