누나 is what you call your older sister if you are male. 언니 is what you call your older sister if you are female. These terms can also be used amongst close friends, so a close female friend who is older and you are also female would be your 언니.
Me as a male would never use the terms 오빠 (older brother) and 언니 (older sister) as they are for females to use.
I would use 형 (older brother) and 누나 (older sister).

I have the same question! I also speak Chinese and 자매 happens to be a Chinese word: 자 - older sister, 매 - younger sister. Also based on k-dramas, it seems that 언니 refers to older sister by blood, whereas 누나 can be any woman older than you. But I'm not too sure about this second point
