Slovenian vs. Slovak
Hello everyone! Welcome back our next challenge of the Versus Series is Slovenian vs. Slovak!!!
In case you are unfamiliar with this challenge here is the discussion were we talked about it and the other competitions are here as well: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/25125242
We are going to put each language to challenge each other in 3 categories. 1. How it sounds (spoken) 2. How is sings (sung) 3. How it looks (written)
Now, what you have to do is vote! Choose who's your winner in this round. DON'T FORGET: we would like you to write in great detail why you chose the language you voted for. Let's start!
- Spoken: https://youtu.be/nQmB8u7aBZs
- Sung: https://youtu.be/LaxWnICFN8I
- Written: Vsi ljudje se rodijo svobodni in imajo enako dostojanstvo in enake pravice. Obdarjeni so z razumom in vestjo in bi morali ravnati drug z drugim kakor bratje.
I vote for Slovenian because of its similarity to my native language. But Slovak is also a nice language. Above all when it's spoken.
I'll vote for Slovak on this one. Gotta love those crazy diacritics.
Also, a suggestion for a battle - Polish (polski) vs. Kashubian (kaszëbsczi). They're closely related languages and some even consider them dialects.
I agree that the diacritics add some flair to the written language, but it is also a bit deceiving. The language has fewer sounds than symbols to write them and some of the symbols represent what is considered a combination of sounds in Slovene, it's a bit unfair in that regard.
Definitely Slovenian :D Besides being my native language it also has shorter alphabet: 25 vs 46 letters. It has dual which can be difficult to learn, but you can use it for just the two of you. It's not us two, but it's just midva. There is no mystery in reading - pronounce every letter.
