I am a beginner in esperanto. Just to clarify: Gradnaj hundo kaj kato or Grandaj hundoj kaj katoj Which one is correct and why?
I believe both should be correct (except for the typo: it's granda, not gradna)
Grandaj hundo kaj kato = 1 dog and 1 cat, and they are big
grandaj hundoj kaj katoj = big dogs and cats.
Why on earth did someone vote this down? This is the best answer in this thread so far!
Staumer asked which of the following is correct.
- Grandaj hundo kaj kato
- Grandaj hundoj kaj katoj
jzsuzsi correctly answered that they both are correct. The first one means a big dog and a big cat. The second means big dogs and cats. (It's not not 100% clear that the cats are also big.)
Yes there is a typo. It should be grandaj. I was thinking about a situation in which the dogs and the cats are big. Do we have to repeat grandaj or can we say it once?
Go for clarity and emphasis. If you want to emphasize that the dogs AND the cats are large, repeat the "grandaj". Another way to think about it is to simply try to communicate. If your communication partner gets it, it doesn't matter if the grammar was less than perfect.
