To school = zur Schule, to the park = in den Park. Is this the only way or is duolingo inconsistent?

Good point. With "yesterday" it would be natural and better to say "I went to the park yesterday" or "yesterday I went to the park".

"have gone" would be better in a different context: "I have always gone to the park by this street" or "I have gone to the park both alone and with my kids".
