It's correct. The -ku- disappears in this instance.
The -ku- is only there to take the stress whenever the second last syllable would be something that cannot take the stress. Syllables that can't take the stress are:
-na- present
-li- past
-me- perfect
-sha- "already"
-ta- future
-nge- "would"
-ngali- "would have"
and the relative markers -ye-, -o-, -lo-, -cho-, -vyo-, -po- etc.
