Plural Pronouns in French

So, I know that, "vous," can be both the singular and formal way of "you," as well as "you all." But is "vous," in the sense of meaning "you all," formal or informal?

I would believe it to be both as you can use it with friends and family or people you’re unfamiliar with

Formal with one person/group of people you don't know well and informal with several people you do know well (with one person you know well / single family member you would use tu).
Remember, tu is always singular. So, if you want to say "I love you (all)" (as in family) you would need to say Je vous aime.

"Vous" addressed to several people does not distinguish whether you use "tu" to one, some, or all of them.
