What's the difference between daseot and o? Are they used interchangeably?

'오' is a Sino-Korean number while '다섯' is a Native Korean number.

Sino-Korean numbers are used when you are counting dates, months, years or measuring something. They are also used when you're reading out your phone number.

•DATES :

이천칠년 삼월 오일 = 2007년 3월 5일 = 5th of March, 2007

일 - day, 월 - month, 년 - year

•MEASUREMENT :

오십사미터 = 54미터 = 54 metres

팔백톤 = 800톤 = 800 tons

구킬로리터 = 9킬로리터 = 9 kilolitres

On the ither hand, Native Korean numbers are used when you are counting some item in general.

책 한권 = 책 1권 = 1 book

운동화 세켤레 = 운동화 3켤레 = 3 pair of sneakers
