Why not "Nous mangeons du chocolat" ? That was the first translation to English. The sentence was "Il a du chocolat" and it translated as "He has the chocolate"

"we eat the chocolate" should be "nous mangeons le chocolat". "Il a du chocolat" means "he has chocolate" or "he has some chocolate". "Du" is the partitive article whereas "le" is the definite article.
