Days of the week

Let’s look at the day of the week the way you see in the calendar. Each kanji represents the day of the week from Sunday to Saturday.

Days of the week is expressed by adding ようび (yōbi) at the end.

あさっては なんようび ですか。(asatte ha nan yōbi desuka)
 Which day of the week is it the day after tomorrow?

きのうは なんようび でしたか。(kinō ha nan yōbi deshitaka)

    Why are they so similar to the French/Spanish days of the week? They're all named after planets in the solar system/Roman Gods whereas English and German days are named after Norse Gods.

    My guess is that this is due to the Spanish influence from the early Jesuit missionaries. There others for example, the word "bread" is pronounced "pan" in Japanese.

    well, Portuguese people were the first europeans to get into contact with Japan. There are a lot of portuguese related words such as bread Pão (PT) = Pan (JP)

    All languages have days of the week that stem from planets or gods I English, Monday is Moon day, Saturday is Saturn Day, Sunday is obvious. I can't currently remember the others.
