Why are comments I am giving an up-vote to being immediately (seemingly automatically) down-voted?
I have noticed today, having read quite a few sentence discussions, that when I return to a discussion that I gave a point to it has returned to zero. If I remove my vote it goes to -1. Some of these comments were made months ago and as yet received no votes so it seems unlikely to me that somebody has come along by chance and disliked all the comments I happen to have found helpful within about 10 minutes...
I've noticed it too since the "maintenance" 2 months ago, I suspect it's the same disconnect between the database and the display that also makes problems for the comment count and the disconnect between the overview and the actual thread...
Interesting, I experienced the same problem. But I returned to the same page later, and my upvote seemed to take effect (downvote was gone) after few hours. I wonder if that was a syncing problem (similar to the problem when edits to comments don't appear immediately until the page is refreshed several times).
It is a bug created by the programmers in the last update to the forums and has not been fixed yet.
I have had this problem too, I didn't realize it was a bug, I had (wrongly?) assumed that it was someone just being mean / malicious downvoting perfectly reasonable questions or concerns being raised.
I really wish they could address this because I think it contributes to a negative / hostile atmosphere in the forums.
I very rarely downvote because I want this place to be positive.
