Are We On Esperanto Tree 2.0, Yet?
From time to time I see posts about Esperanto "Tree 2.0." It even gets mentioned in course status updates at https://incubator.duolingo.com/courses/eo/en/status.
But, I've never seen a big "Yaay! We're on Tree 2.0" announcement. Did this transition ever happen?
Not yet. It's held up for Duolingo reasons, I think. Keep your eyes open for announcements.
Yesterday I read the link you provided. My impression (as I recall) was that they were talking about their own progress in finishing the tree. There is a lot that goes on at Duolingo behind the scenes, and while I share your frustration in not being able to see the new tree (or even vaguely knowing when it will be out), I know that the core staff at Duolingo is working on many things (recent examples are Duolingo Stories and Duolingo Events) and so I find it easy to be forgiving of this delay.
Again, watch for more announcements about the things Duolingo is working on.
I understand they don't get paid to work on it, so I certainly am not upset about how long it takes. Wouldn't it be funny if the programmers were mad at us for taking so long to work through their program!? I also want the new version to come out when it is ready; not when the deadline arrives.
I think the volunteer portion (the Esperanto team's part) is complete. Now we're waiting for Duolingo to make it available. By Duolingo I mean the paid staff. As I said elsewhere in this thread, there's a lot going on and there are only so many hours in the day.
The contributors for the Esperanto course have come up with an expanded version. Rather than modify the course here or there, they reworked the whole tree (well, I haven't seen it). I believe some of the skills have been moved around, some things have been added, some things have been expanded. I've heard a few details about individual words that will or won't be included in the new course, but I don't have an overall sense of the difference beyond what I said here.
