There are loads of articles on this subject out there. But I like to use the answer "well, there is no inherent disadvantage to learning a new language."

Its really not important as a native English speaker in America. Unless you plan to travel to a central or south American country then being able to communicate would be an advantage.

I plan to spend a lot of time in multiple south American counties so learning Spanish is a big advantage.

Really? Where I live in the U.S. there is a huge monolingual Hispanic population. Their kids speak English, but many of the immigrants themselves do not (yet). Learning Spanish has helped me communicate with people in my own city. And all the bilingual people I know have no shortage of job opportunities.

I think it depends on your expectations, I'd say there is a ton of reasons. For example, if you'd like to be a Doctor or an Engineer, learning two languages will be very important. Other people could say it's fun and you could meet much people that way.

Depende en la situación. En la mía, soy estadounidense, nativo del Inglés, pero dónde vivo hay muchos hispanohablantes y escucho el idioma casi todos los días. Es una pasatiempo para mí, y me encanta el poder de hablar con más gente así.
