Is `Die Wette läuft' correct? Marked wrong, but Google Translate says it's OK.

No, I think "Die Wette gilt" is a fixed expression, anyway ever since the German tv audience had been hearing that phrase for decades on the show "Wetten, dass...?" (I think it was called "Wanna bet?" in English).

If you can use "Die Wette läuft" at all, it would be to say, "the bet is (already) going on", not "the deal on this bet has been sealed".

Gilt : applies / the bet applies

Would "Die Wette steht" be acceptable?

no, that is 'the bet stands' which is not really the meaning of the sentence, read more here: https://www.duolingo.com/dictionary/German/gilt/78c91c9663e054e13ca69ddcec32a451
