If the answer is: "Gisteren hebben we de telescoop verkocht." - then the English sentence should be: "Yesterday we sold the telescope" or "We HAVE sold the telescope yesterday"

The proper translation should be: "Wij hebben gisteren de telescoop verkocht"

If there is a time expression like "yesterday" in the sentence, you cannot use the present perfect in English. (So you cannot say "have sold") In Dutch, however, both are fine. (The present perfect is used the most in Dutch)
