JLPT?

Do u have to take the JLPT exams? Or is it a thing for gauging ur lvl of skill?

You only HAVE to take it if you want to work in Japan. Then you'll need N2 or N1. For everyone else, it's just for fun or to know how far you've come.

Only if 'HAVE to' means 'definitely should'. It is important to some employers, but not all. If you can demonstrate your ability (at that level) without the test it likely won't be an issue.

That being said, it is MUCH better to have the certificate and not need it than to need it and not have it.
