The German amen

At the end of prayers in English we say 'Amen'. What is it in Deutsch?

Liebe Grüße

"Amen" is one of the common words across many languages. At least 18 European languages spell it a-m-e-n. Others have a slight variation.

Oh so it's the same as English.

Surprisingly, it's also the same in Hebrew :)

But it's probably 'spelled' (if that's the right word) differently. Like אָמֵן.

Both English and German got it from Hebrew (via Greek and/or Latin), so that shouldn't be surprising.

Good question ! There is a song call 'Vater Unser' from E Nomine. As the name suggests it, it is the Lord's prayer in German. And it ends indeed with Amen.

I first loved the music, then as my faith grew, I enjoyed it for its Christian theme and now I love it more because I fully understand the lyrics.

God bless ? !
