I knew an older divorcee that kept several glass beer mugs in the freezer. Not really much food though.

I have seen quite a few beer drinking places kept the beer mugs in the freezer. They are used to serve the customers with cold beer. The cold mugs served as "ice" without actually putting ice in the beer.

Normally we just say "in the freezer" except to stress vs an expected location such as if they should be on top of it.

'plates' should be accepted here in place of 'dishes' as well.
